Although the store offers a wide range of products including fashion, electronics, home & garden and more, special occasion dresses (especially wedding dresses) have been always their hottest product line. Their selection of all kinds of formal and semi-formal dresses is very impressive in terms of styles and quantities. If you are looking for cocktail dresses, prom dresses, evening dresses, homecoming dresses or any other special occasion dresses elaborately made from fine materials at a budget, they won’t get your down.

Review of Lightinthebox Branded Cosmetic Products

As a big name in the Chinese foreign trade arena, Lightinthebox.com is best known for selling fashion products such as wedding dresses and special occasion dresses. Meanwhile, the shopping site also carries a wide range of cool electronic gadgets, including car electronics, security systems, cell phones & accessories, tablet PCs and much more. Some Home and Garden products are among their hot-selling categories too, e.g. faucets or oil paintings. As for their Health and Beauty line, it seems that tattoo supplies are the only one that can catch customers’ eyes – I do see they frequently promote tattoo kits, tattoo machines, tattoo ink or other tattoo products in their homepage big banners.

Anyway, recently I notice that they have opened an exclusive promotional page for deals on cosmetic products from world top brands including Chanel, Jurlique, SK-II, Lancôme, Clarins, Elizabeth Arden, La Prairie, Shu Uemura and more. Most are skin care products: cleansing oil, cellular radiance cream, body lotion, eye treatment film, youth activating nigh cream and line repair, to list just a few. When I discovered that they had started selling such name brand cosmetics, I was really curious how a Chinese company could make profits from this filed. I meant: isn’t it true that many Chinese people buy cosmetic products of famous brands direct from European or American stores because of the much lower prices?

With the curiosity, I did a rough research on the prices for the cosmetic products Lightinthebox offers. Surprisingly, I found that their prices are very competitive. I compared their prices on a number of skincare products from several brands to those offered by Amazon.com and Strawberrynet.com. I guess you must be very familiar with Amazon.com so here I don’t need to introduce it in detail. Strawberrynet.com is a famous Hong Kong-based online distributor of all kinds cosmetic and skin care products. The site specializes in discounted cosmetics and offers free shipping on orders of any sizes to any destinations around the world. Hong Kong is a shopping paradise as the region has lots of tax-free products to choose from, especially in the fields of electronics and cosmetics. Every time I bought skin care and make-up products that can be used for a whole year when I visited Hong Kong. By doing that I have saved really much money and I don’t have to worry about getting fakes or inferior quality products.

Milanoo Handbags V.S. Lightinthebox Handbags

Milanoo.com is one of my favorite Chinese international shopping sites although it does have some negative reviews on the internet. I like it simply because I have been witnessing the progresses it is making all the way since it was founded and quite impressed by the great efforts they have been devoting to grab the market share.

At the beginning I thought it was a small site like many other ones I had known, which either disappear quickly or stay at the same place year after year. Obviously the site is far beyond my expectation. In recent years I see a robust and ambitious Milanoo keep improving their service and enlarging their product line. This is a very good quality for an online store like Milanoo.com (read the full review of the site here). For global buyers, at least they can be confident that this site is not a scam though they are not perfect.

Besides the complaints against Milanoo.om posted on social forums or third-party review websites, I am a little bit disappointed by the fact that the site does not publish any bad reviews on their own site. I believe they must have received some unfavorable reviews otherwise how could the people vent their anger elsewhere? So far I’ve known no Chinese sites doing well in this respect. What a big deal with accepting criticism anyway? If I were an online shopping site owner, I would let go all kinds of reviews of the products or service offered by my site – I believe it is a good way to filter the inventory in order to keep the best products that are really liked by customers. From my point of view, one reason for not publishing the negative reviews is that the sites are not confident in themselves. What do you think?

However, a closer look reveals that the sites emphasize differently in the types of bags they carry. Above 90% of bags for sale at Lightinthebox.com is for special occasions. In particular, evening bags, party bags and wedding bags are their biggest subcategories. My Personal Impression on Lightinthebox.com

I personally never work for Lightinthebox.com. When I created this site, the company just popped out of my mind and then I decided to write a series of reviews for the company to show my deep respect for them. When I was working for another famous China-based international e-commerce site, one of their managers tried to convince me to join their team. I did shake my footing but finally I rejected the offer simply because I wanted to stay completely loyal to my leaders, who were nice to me and gave me a lot of help in my work. Seriously, I could have never attained the achievements there without their support. Thanks, Yolanda and Nick!

OK, now let me get back on the right track. Why am I so impressed by Lightinthebox.com? As early as when I was working at DHgate.com, one of the most popular online Chinese global trading marketplaces, I came to know Lightinthebox.com gradually as they are extensively regarded as a really powerful competitor to all Chinese B2B or B2C sites targeting the overseas market. At the same time, I heard a lot about their company culture, workflow standards and other details from some old colleagues who jumped to the company for better career development.

Based on my knowledge, their boss, the ambitious man who was an advanced administrative officer of Google China, is very strict on the employees. It is said that their administrative team manage the company in a military way. It sounds like a little bit overstating. Anyway, it fits for my style.

News: LightInTheBox Opened its Domestic Store on Tmall.com

Days ago, Quji Guo, the CEO of Lightinthebox.com, confirmed the news in Sina Microblog (or Sina Weibo) that Lightinthebox had opened its domestic store of wedding apparel and accessories on Tmall.com, the famous shopping website with over 70,000 brands.

Tmall.com is a part of Taobao.com, the biggest online shopping website in China, connecting countless sellers and consumers. There you can find a huge variety of products offered by verified brands with intellectual property rights. From my personal angle, I believe Lightinthebox chooses Tmall to start its domestic trade for good reason. The huge customer base and the strong reputation of the brand shopping platform should be the biggest attractions for Lightinthebox. Compared with creating its own shopping website targeted at Chinese domestic customers, Lightinthebox may be able to raise its popularity on the domestic market more quickly and more easily.

It is interesting to mention that Lightinthebox chooses to open its first domestic store at its competitor AliExpress.com’s sister website – AliExpress and Tmall both belong to Alibaba Group. Based on my findings, currently the Lightinthebox Tmall store is run by the Shenzhen branch office of Lightinthebox.com, mainly offering high-end wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, party dresses and wedding accessories.

By comparison, I notice that the prices Lightinthebox Tmall store offers on the wedding dresses and party dresses are generally higher than market prices. For instance, the wedding dresses are priced at from ￥588RMB (about $100USD) to ￥3188RMB (about $500USD). But obviously, the wedding apparel and special occasion dresses available in the store seem much superior in designs and quality. That’s why I said the wedding dresses and other apparel and accessories are “high-end”.
