Some people are complaining either on forums or blog comments that LightInTheBox.com is a scam, and as a webmaster of Danviews.com, I’ve made careful research on these complaints trying to find some useful information for our readers. So far, to my best knowledge, I find that these scam complaints can be summarized as three major types:

  • Complaints about Lightinthebox customer service: slow response, unprofessional service representative, inefficient live chat system, etc;
  • Complaints about Lightinthebox products: poor quality, not completely as described, weak after-sales technical support, etc;
  • Complaints about Lightinthebox shipping service: not as fast as advertised, etc.

However, interesting enough,  if you read carefully any of  the above complaints against LightInTheBox, you will see a lot more thumb-up comments, who claimed they had bought some item from Lightinthebox.com and are very satisfactory with their purchase with LightInTheBox in terms of item quality, customer service, shipping speed, after-sales support, or any other aspect.

Besides, as I’ve learnt from McAfee, the authoritative organization providing certification service on the security of websites, LightInTheBox is undergoing their intensive, daily security scan. As we can see, many famous online stores in America have also been being certified by McAfee. Under this protection, you won’t encounter any dangerous sites, phishing, and other online dangers when shopping on LightInTheBox.

  1. I found a dress on Pinterest from a company located in China, named Lightinthebox. The dress is for my son’s wedding. Because I was ordering from a company outside of the U.S., I read their return policy very carefully. One of their statements is “returns are easy”. Nothing could be further from the truth.
    The only method of communication available is a messaging app located on their website. It is cumbersome and awkward. I did not receive email notifications that a new message was on their website. OnceI asked for the return authorization code, the responses never addressed the return request. They offered to pay a partial payment to have the dress altered. I told them the dress was not flattering and that the built in bra was bumpy and unsightly. After 3 weeks of emails back and forth they finally told me I would be chargd a 30% restocking fee. What a hassle! And what a rip off! At the very highest, 20% restocking fee is the norm, I tried to negotiate with them, but then I was told I could’t return the dress at all.
    I finally settled on the j30% restocking fee to at least recover that much.
    When I see pins on Pinterest, I feel that the companies are legit. This is definately NOT a legitimate company and I request they be removed so that others are not losing out because of their scammy way of doing business in the U.S. My return was delivered 7 days ago. I have not received an email from them yet. I will give them 5 more days before I reach out again. I am guessing I won’t see a dime back.

  2. I ordered 2 items for my wedding almost 2 months ago…nothing arrived yet. Sent 2 emails with no responses and no phone contact. Definetely think this is a scam…unfortunately I guess I am out of the money. If anyone has anyway of contacting these people please let me know!

  3. Ordered 2 shirts from Light in the Box which were too small. The shirts still had tags and weren’t worn. I paid for return shipping as instructed by LITB. Afterwards they closed the ticket for the returns with no explanation. Now I have no idea what is going on with my returns as they have no contact information on their site.

    DO NOT BUY CLOTHES FROM THIS COMPANY. YOU CAN NOT RETURN ANYTHING.

    I ordered a custom made dress. Because i have a large bust, i specified shoulder to bust measurements and other measurements needed to ensure that the dress fitted and the waist is at the right place etc. They could not cope, so i asked for my order to be cancelled. Bear in mind that they were still confirming my measurements for the order at the point i cancelled. Now they are trying to claim that they have already started the creation process and deny me a full refund. How can they have started the creation process and started using materials when they have yet to confirm the measurements for the dress.

  5. Puchased a 500.00 item and was charged twice with 3-7 days shipping. Waited for over two months and nothing. They will always say just one move week and you will not have a good tracking number. Then they will stop responding. This company should be banded from doing business in the USA

  8. my rechargeable touch lamp does not charge. Lightinbox customer service does not answer, ignoring my responses to return the item. I tend to think their products have problems. It seems light inbox dumps their products and some work and other fail; obviously, they don’t care.

I pay for some dresses and over a month and several emails back and forth I still didn’t get a reimbursement neither the product because the package is marked as getting ready to be shipped from china postal services, there was no activity on the order other than paid and shipped, keep in mind this is an international company so there is no way I could sue the company to get my $$ back. STAY AWAY BIG SCAMMERS….Please note the blogger that is advocating in favor of LITB is from the company it self, obviously that is his or her job reply to negative reviews.

    I have a realy small issue with my order, so I contacted to LightInTheBox customer service and got immediate reply. My issue was resolved! Special thank you would like to say for Leon, the person who was working with me until my case wasn’t closed!

  12. On Thursday(23.11.17) I get there Black Friday Coupones. Valid Period was 21/11/2017-24/11/2017 – it says that it is valied till today 24.11.17! On black Friday morning(24.11.17) I beging to try to apply this coupones to my Xiaomi M365 order, but all my Black Friday Coupones were already EXPIRED!!! I contacted to there customer service and ask them to help! But customer service wasn’t answering, so I made an orderexpecting, that they will add my discount to my order! In the end of theBlack Friday lightinthebox.com made a new coupones! And I send my second coupone to there customer service!

    On the next day I get reply from customer service “We are sorry to inform you that we cannot apply any coupons after the order is placed, and coupons or rewards are applied during check out by the customer and can no longer be applied, unfortunately your order was already shipped on 2017-11-24. As such, it can no longer be cancelled/refunded.”

    About “unfortunately your order was already shipped on 2017-11-24” Today 25.11.17 I checked the tracking number and it says “Item is not found at this moment.”. It means that order wasn’t shipped till now and its not a problem to cancell order!

    I think thats very unfair from there side! Price of item was 335Euoro+17Euro Customes Fee to Ireland=352Euro. With my promo code price should be 338Euro. 14euro is not significant money, but they are cheating even on them!

    In the end of the black Friday my friend send me a link on another website where price was just 278Euro!!! But I can’t cancell order because customer service never answer in time!

    Guys don’t be in rush as I. lightinthebox.com – it is expenxive prices, worst customer service and fake promo codes! I’m sure that you can find better place to get a best deal! Good luck to everybody!

    Update 1 Just checked the tracking number and it says “Item is not found at this moment.”. It means that order wasn’t shipped till now(26.11.17) and its not a problem to cancell order!

    Update 2 They blocked me on there website and delete all my complains!

  14. Avoid ordering from lightinthebox. I order one mobile phone & 5 wifi repeater. The phone after 2 months has problem & the repeater I must restart every week. They don’t accept the problems & resolve them. No more lightinthebox.

  15. Scam, Dodgy & Fraud
    Lightinthebox are suppliers of fake/faulty micro SD memory cards. These have been deliberately hacked/manipulated to show a higher capacity than they contain so the customer is conned. I purchased two 32Gb Class 10 micro SD cards but when tested, they could only hold 7Gb of date. Also their write speed was much slower than the Class 10 standard. It therefore looks as though these are poor quality 8Gb cards which at first glance are 32Gb but are slow, and corrupt all data beyond a 7Gb capacity. Despite being supplied with all the diagnostic reports showing that they have been tinkered with to dupe customers they insist on operating their unfair returns policy. Consequently, I have to pay £6 postage to return their fake items because of their fraudulent activities. Unfortunately, because they are based in China they can continue such practices with impunity.
    So, the only remedy is for all potential customers to avoid this supplier. Just google their name to view all the other problems buyers are facing.
    So, is it a SCAM? YES YES YES

I ordered a BV7000 pro cell phone from light in the box I also ordered a lap top i received the lap top fast and was great deal shipped 12 hours after I paid all good , so back to the phone said ships in 4-5 days I paid for express mail , so the phone was still processing after 10 days I clicked cancel this order and it was not respected they jerked me around answering tickets vaguely etc finally 20 days after I paid and a week after I asked to cancel the purchase and I purchased another phone phone was shipped , in the add it listed frequencies I called my cell service provider they said the phone would work well when it did arrive it had only a UK power cord and it does not work anywhere in North America , add $41 in duty to the $261 Canadian and I am in over $300 for a phone that will not work , they will not offer a direct answer stopped communicating with me about a return exchange for another model that works the company is a scam , I am going to contact my credit card company and explain the situation and try to charge back I wish I had paid with paypal !
    They must have a really bad history for Charge backs so I am hopeful the CC company will help but don’t buy from these Scum bags really low down scum use really stupid vague answers on tickers to extend as much time as possible hoping you will go away than just ignore you .

Very good variety of MADE-IN-CHINA products at discounted prices, BUT there are so many issues.The first (and obviously last) item I ordered arrived after 4 WEEKS and LightInTheBox charged me 35 EUR FOR CUSTOMS CHARGES which is ridiculous. A serious company listed on a stock exchange should know and cover all delivery-tax-customs expenses. I definitely do not recommend this website. Stay away

  18. there is a product called s60t camera stabilizer on light in the box it is selling it for 4500 rupees where as its real price is 8300 rupees on light in the box… meanwhile on amazon its real price is 12000 rupees… Now that’s some thing which raises my eye brows as well as suspicion…

    I HOPE THE SITE IS RIGHTLY DEALT WITH ITS PRACTISES…!!!

  19. LightintheBox is not to be trusted, they sent me the wrong items as per my order and invoice.
    Then promised to refund and six months later still fighting them.

    Never buy from these Chinese Scam Artists. If I could get face to face with them I would kill somebody filthy Chinese Bastards.
